TEDxMANHATTAN — Challenge Finalists! Help Mark get on stage to talk about food!

Mark and the FarmBus are in the top 5 TEDxMANHATTAN Challenge Finalists!  What does that mean? It means that we are super honored and humbled. It means that Mark is in the running for a chance to take the stage at TEDxMANHATTAN’s annual conference, Changing the Way We Eat, February 16, 2013 in NYC, to talk about food. It means that competition is fierce, because the other 4 finalists are AMAZING also!!! It also means that we need YOUR help to vote for us  by December 15 and to spread the word that we need everyone to vote for us. We are excited about this opportunity to talk about urban, sustainable farming where  building soil, growing crops, teaching kids and grownups to farm, cook and be healthier, creating jobs, supporting our veterans, getting food to the people via our mobile FarmBus and pop-up efforts, raising self-esteem and having fun with people of all shapes, sizes, ages, genders, incomes and colors is important. It means that this is our chance to share  and represent what is going on in the food system here in Richmond VA with the rest of the world. This means that you can do what we are doing too. This is big.

How can you change the way you eat? Here are some suggestions from TEDxManhattan.

Want to watch the event with others? Look for a viewing party in your area. Slow Food RVA will be having one, location TBA.

We hope that you will vote for Mark Lilly and the FarmBus! Thank you so much to everyone for your support.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives.

The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize independent, TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

Richmond is getting it’s own TEDxRVA event on March 22, 2013! And it is going to be a very cool event. Mark your calendar and get your ticket! Follow TEDxRVA on Facebook.
