DC Markets – CSA Share — 4th of July edition

1782051_10152416809045935_993777493181133863_nHi members, Mark has put together a beautiful share for you this week that should support all of your 4th of July needs! We are grateful to live in this country and appreciate the freedoms that our forefathers, and our country today, continues to value. Just imagine if we were still part of Great Britain, having to decide on Brexit!!!

First off, please review your schedule for NEXT week if you are weekly, as our July 6th share falls two days following the  4th. I know that many of you may be traveling and may need to HOLD that share. If you put that share on hold, just a reminder to email and let me know how you wish to redeem it: pick up the following week, a different week, move to credit, or donate. You can also sell or give that share to someone else, a friend, family member, neighbor or co-worker.  Our food travels really well, so if you are traveling by car, consider bringing your share with you – you may have to add it to a cooler to keep it fresher, but it will be worth it when you arrive! We always love sharing, and it is always fun for people to realize the food we eat on a regular basis is such a treat for others who don’t have access, or may not have considered that there are healthier, more sustainable alternatives.

Here is the share — Happy cooking! Suzi

Capitol Hill Market Update –  We are working on a Business Plan, and are seeking someone to help with that. We feel strongly that all Capitol Hill residents have access to high quality produce, meat, dairy, grains and more – as well as a strong local food economy.

GO FUND ME! We have launched our GoFundMe fundraiser. This fundraiser is intended to provide Mark with the funds to cover rent, payroll and equipment for the first 6 months. Please llike and share, and donate if you can. We are grateful for any support!

This project has been several years in the making. We are eternally grateful to you, our CSA members, and look forward to playing a bigger role in the Capitol Hill Community.

WINTER VEGGIES – VIRGINIA THIS MORNING – CBS 6

Here’s Suzi Lilly, Farm to Family Wife, on Virginia This Morning on CBS 6 talking winter veggies with Greg McQuade.  Chef Tammy Brawley of The Green Kitchen follows up with a cooking demo for super fresh, easy, FAST recipes for Sweet Potato Gnocchi with sage brown butter, and braised kale and creasy greens. Sweet potatoes and squash are loaded with fiber, vitamins A, C and iron, and gives you glowing skin (is especially good for babies, kids, pregnant/nursing moms and women in general), and creasy greens is good for what ails you in the winter time – has twice the vitamin C as oranges, iron, minerals and chlorophyl, which oxygenates your body.  Are you hungry yet?
