What’s in the CSA, on the FarmBus and at the Market 12/15+16

Hello Members! Here is our menu for the upcoming week’s share.  Keep in mind this menu may still change as we are still getting available items in.

A reminder that we are on CSA Winter holiday the last 2 weeks of December and will return the first week of January – no CSA shares during that time.  Next week is our last share of December. If you are biweekly and received a share this past week, you will return the first week of January. If you are biweekly and receive a share next week, you will return the second week of January. Check your online dashboard calendars for your schedule if you are unsure.

Holds:If you are away next week, or the first week of January when we return, please put your share on hold, or ask me to help you. Our network of donation families is especially appreciative of donated shares this year. Thank you for considering donating your held share.

Tofu customers: We received word from Twin Oaks that they are ceasing production of the individually packaged tofu – we have some in stock to cover us for next week so you will receive your tofu next week if you ordered it. They are continuing bulk packaging, but we are evaluating if repackaging bulk tofu is something we can realistically and safely do for you – there are multiple things we need to review on this. We sadly may end up having to cancel and refund any seasonal subscriptions. I will let you know what we decide and what to expect. Thank you for your patience. We are saddened by this decision, as it is the world’s best tofu, but we respect and understand that there are a lot of pivots during this challenging time.

There is a note at the bottom about the MILK!!!! It is delicious and not really Cat Milk! Please enjoy.

Holiday meats + turkey  If you want these, go ahead and order, and we will have them for you next week. We sitll have duck, bison roasts, steak and filet, pork butt, lamb leg, brisket, turkeys, turkey legs and ground turkey. Turkeys are on the Larger size 18-22 lbs. . Please share with friends and neighbors.

If you love the CSA, please share it with friends – new subscribers save 5% with discount code GRATITUDE! Anyone who joins will earn you a $25 referral reward when they use your name upon sign up! It’s a win win – so share away!

We have gift certificates for the CSA online here.  We also have eGiftCards for the RVA Farm to Family Market/FarmBus available at the market/FarmBus  as well as online. Great News!

We are pleased to announce that we are partnering with a local chef and have added gourmet Prepared Meals using fresh local ingredients (the same as in your CSA!) to the menu and they are available to order for pickup/delivery next week. Deadline to order online is Friday at 5pm for the following week. If you miss the deadline and want to order, email and I can place the order for you. They are also for sale in Richmond at the Farm to Family Market, 2817 Mechanicsville Turnpike, RVA 23223. You do NOT have to be a current member to order.

This week’s meals come from Richmond, VA Chef Michael Hayes (Awful Arthur’s and Chef Mike’s “Your Craving Is My Command). Meals are frozen and ready to heat.  All are single serve portions this week. We are working on family sized options for next time.

1. Braised lamb shank with sweet potato hash and sweet carrot/ honey scallions. GF – $18

2. Meat loaf with roasted golden beets and garilc chive rutabega/potato mash – $14

3. Marinated tofu with spinach pie and veg fried rice (Vegan contains soy) – $12

4. Pasta with ramps, mixed mushrooms (oyster, maitake and shiitake) with roasted garlic oil. (Vegetarian/contains egg and dairy) – $12

I do not yet have the menu for the following week – but once I have it, I will be sending it out. If you are getting a share the week of the 14th/15th – you need to wait for next week’s menu, and your order deadline will be Friday 4/10.

How to Order

Go to Prepared Meals under Categories on our website and log in or create a log in. Click on the item you wish, and adjust quantity. Let me know if you need help or have difficulty. As the order deadline is Friday at 5pm for next week, and we just got these, please email farmshares@thefarmbus.com with your order and quantity and I can place this for you

We are looking forward to working with Chef Michael and we appreciate your feedback! Let us know if you have special requests!

Bon Appetit!

Lincoln Now – More than Food with Mark + Suzi Lilly of Farm to Family

ArtistProfile1-FarmBus-0257

We were profiled in this lovely writeup from Lincoln Now back in December, when they were on their roadtrip in the Fall. They had a sharp red Navigator, which we were happy to fill up with a Grab and Go box and there was lots of room for pumpkins and squash.
